Verwend Nest
Workshop for children between 6 and 12 years old
Exhibition, September 21 – November 10 2013
Curator: Eelco van der Lingen
The gaze into the outside world starts with ourselves. It is a bit of a restricted view, but we have to go through our own ‘I’ to get to the rest.
However limited the ego may be, it is also a random factor that makes art noteworthy, authentic, special and surprising. The artist gives the public the possibility to look at the world, filtered by the psyche of the artist. Looking at it this way, solism and egocentrism seem to have a very social function in the end.
Those narcissistic tendencies are not so bad after all.
The artists in Narcissistic Tendencies employ their own body and soul, their own personal history and situation to give access to the bigger picture and a new, different world.
Michiel van Nieuwkerk interviews Philip Akkerman, Puck Verkade and Feiko Beckers about the role of the ego in their work. Dutch spoken Admission € 2,00
