Artist Talk

  •

On Wednesday 21st of April we invite you to the online Artist Talk with Ana Navas, Evelyn Taocheng Wang and Mila Lanfermeijer about their exhibition ||| at Nest, in conversation with the author Kate Briggs.

In this exhibition, three artists explore the meaning of repetition, appreciation and appropriation. In seven rooms, specially designed by architect Donna van Milligen Bielke, they tell a story about the intricacies of friendship, artistic kinship and autonomy within. Reproduction and mimicry are important methods to understand, appreciate, and interpret their own place in art history.

Kate Briggs is a writer, translator and educator (Piet Zwart Institute). She is the author of a.o. ’This Little Art’ (2017), a book about the art of translation with all its strangenesses and paradoxes that form this practice. Briggs writes about the personal relations that come into being between authors and their translators, about the idea of the original and copy, and on the slow, physical act of reading and (re-)writing.

“I read and move to translate with my body, and my body is not the same as yours.’’

The artists read and discussed her book in a prior event, in relation to their practices including methods of repetition, mimicry and appreciation.
During this online Artist Talk, Kate Briggs will continue with the artists on this, and talk also about the thread that runs through not only their artistic work and through the various rooms of the exhibition |||, but also their lives.

The conversation will in English be on Zoom.
Participation is free, registration is required.
