Dialogue Table

Note: this event is in Dutch only.

On Tuesday December 19th Nest organises a Keti Koti Dialogue Table, together with Stichting Keti Koti Tafel and Huis van Gedichten. The dialogue table is a new tradition that has been developed specifically to reflect and discuss our shared history of colonialism and slavery and its lingering effects today.

Exactly one year after the Dutch government apologised for its role in slavery and slave trade, we reflect on the theme of ‘Apologising and accepting an apology: how do you do that?' during this Keti Koti Dialogue Table. It is important to ask ourselves what it means for us to apologise to someone. And what does both apologising and receiving an apology entail?

By combining several elements – symbolic gestures, a shared meal, songs of sorrows and freedom – the Keti Koti Dialogue Table tries to give a voice to underexposed stories from history. During the dinner meetings and exchange play a central role.

As part of this special night there will be various spoken word performances by students of the Johan de Witt Scholengroep, that were written together with Huis van Gedichten in anticipation for this night and around the theme of 'the apology'.

This table is for young and old, starting from the age of 12.

How to participate?

Due to the limited spots available and the composition of dialogue couples, registration is necessary. You can register via this link and you will receive a confirmation from us. Please not that the conversations this night will be in Dutch.
