Jana Romanova & Ewa Kruttova

I Don’t Think I’ll Stay Here Long is a collaboration between Ewa Kruttova, who arrived in the Netherlands from Ukraine in March 2022, and Jana Romanova, who came to the Netherlands from Russia in 2019. Together they tell the stories of fourteen women that fled Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion in February 2022, and who are currently staying with Dutch families throughout the Netherlands. In the 40-minute video-installation performance artist Ewa re-enacts a series of monologues that are based on interviews with these women and describes their efforts to find a common ground with their hosts and learning to live with strangers, despite their cultural differences.

The project is full of complex stories about loneliness and equity, rights, cultural cliches, humour, sorrow, and the hope of being able to find a place to call home once more.

Disclaimer: protagonists speak in Surzhyk and Russian, as interviewees mostly came from the Eastern and Central Ukraine where the population is largely Russian-speaking. In the meantime, they are gradually switching to the Ukrainian language and reclaiming their identities. This is a process, and for the context of this project they often preferred to speak in the Russian or Surzhyk languages.

Welcome to ‘The Grand Palace of Everyone’, a land without borders where collaboration reigns.

Together with No Limits! Art Castle (formerly known as Outsiderland) we tear down the walls between fantasy and reality, art and design, and ‘insider’ and ‘outsider’ artists. Why would anyone decide who is ‘professional enough’ to enter the gates?

The Grand Palace of Everyonerolls out a black and white carpet for the work of over sixty artists in 26 unique collaborations between talented and dedicated artists. Side by side they find their way in the art world and present a broad scope of collaborations in every nook and cranny of Nest. Never before have so many artists shared the space in one exhibition.
