Piet Parra & Ben Augustus

Artists Piet Parra and Ben Augustus are both not that fond of collaborating. They’d rather spend their timing just making things, each in their own studio. Ben has been working at Galerie Atelier Herenplaats in Rotterdam since 1994. He’s really into musicals, film calendars, Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden (one of the longest running Dutch soap series) and Disney World. He enjoys drawing and painting about these topics in his signature style. Piet too has his unique signature style. Many people are familiar with his illustrations that are full of bold colours, lively letters, and bird-headed human figures. Whether it’s a drawing, skateboard, animation, or sculpture, it’s instantly recognisable as a Parra.

During their collaboration Ben made drawings in a small booklet given to him by Piet, to which Piet in turn responded with colours and drawings of his own.

Welcome to ‘The Grand Palace of Everyone’, a land without borders where collaboration reigns.

Together with No Limits! Art Castle (formerly known as Outsiderland) we tear down the walls between fantasy and reality, art and design, and ‘insider’ and ‘outsider’ artists. Why would anyone decide who is ‘professional enough’ to enter the gates?

‘‘The Grand Palace of Everyone‘ rolls out a black and white carpet for the work of over sixty artists in 26 unique collaborations between talented and dedicated artists. Side by side they find their way in the art world and present a broad scope of collaborations in every nook and cranny of Nest. Never before have so many artists shared the space in one exhibition.
