For the upcoming edition Art Rotterdam launches a new section for non-profit spaces and artist initiatives: Intersections. Intersections takes places in the former workshops of the Van Nellefabriek, just opposite the fair entrance. About 15 presentation spaces will show, in this 1.300 square metre space, a combination of installation art, art performances and interactive art. During Art Rotterdam Nest will host a presentation by the Italian artist Enrico Gaido.

Enrico Gaido, originally an engineer, learnt that the restrictions within the calculations of error and danger he dealt with were better investigated as an artist than as a scientist. As an artist he brings together elements of science, performance, drama and politics in installations that offer both sensation as well as contemplation. One particular reoccurring element in the work of Gaido is that of the explosion being captured in materials. Gaido is able to calculate the level of an explosive charge and the amount of surrounding materials like substance that, once set off, will merge together in the materialistic fixation or expansion of an explosion.
