Kevin Bauer is the first in a series of eight artists that will have solo exhibitions in the Court of Justice, curated by Daphne Verberg. The exhibitions are part of a collaboration between Atelier Rijksbouwmeester and Nest.
Since its opening in 1973 The Hague's Court of Justice will be renovated for the third time. Kevin Bauers installation Perpetual Motion focusses on the buildings live cycle. The different periods of time and style are brought together in objects that explore building and demolishing, with recognizable and unrecognizable elements from the structure. This portrays the temporariness and variability of architecture. The work represents an implosion of various elements, entangled and intertwined.
Often, buildings last less than a human lifetime. The fact that the Court of Justice is now being renovated for the third time within a span of 51 years raises questions about sustainability, but also about the evolution of our requirements for a work environment.
