When the Sun Falls

Nest at Down The Rabbit Hole 2018

When The Sun Falls travels to music festival Down The Rabbit Hole, which will take place this year from 29 June to 1 July. When The Sun Falls is a monumental work of art, in which the setting sun blends in a way with the work of art by Yair Callender. Specially for Art Rotterdam Yair Callender developed the impressive installation When the Sun Falls, at the entrance of the Van Nelle Factory. The presentation was part of the ‘Open Air’ program that showed large-scale artworks on the grounds of the Van Nelle Factory during Art Rotterdam 2018. With When the Sun Falls, Yair Callender wanted to invite art buyers and fair visitors to sit on the grass to reflect on all the materials that could not be purchased. The work of art was not so much an indictment of the fair, or capitalism, but invited a degree of awareness of the everyday and that which we can view for free, provided that we are occasionally pointed out.

When the Sun Falls will be placed on Down the Rabbit Hole at the waterfront and invites the visitor to sit down, without any adornment, extra peripheral programming or sidekicks for 7 minutes to watch the sun go down.

In the past year there has been an intensive collaboration with Yair Callender. Callender has been implemented in a versatile way in the annual programme. The manifestations and artworks that Yair Callender created in collaboration with Nest differ in form: a solo presentation, participation in a group exhibition, a concert, a meditation and this festival.
