Out and About – Leslie Nagel

What have you been up to in the past year?
“What I experienced as very special last year were the projects that had two things in common, which were cooperation and experimentation. When everything was shut down, I felt the need to experiment, to play. This happened with OCTA (Or Call This Art), a temporary collective that I brought together with Bart Schalekamp. The collective was motivated by the need to work together in one space and to show the energy and the fun, without the pressure of a slick end result. This inspired me to work more in the moment, to make quick interventions.”

What are you presenting today?
“For some time, I’ve been thinking about a series of works that you can step into as a visitor, and from which you move through the space as a sculpture. The visitor becomes a sculpture and the sculpture a character. This work called ’01’ has been put into the world to perform. I would like to see ’01’ as a character in a theatre play, perhaps with other works of art. The co-players are still unclear at this stage. ’01’ is now moving around outside and trying to connect with others.”
